One of the worth-visiting places of Azerbaijan is Gobustan National Park.
Gobustan was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site considered to be of “outstanding universal value” for the quality and density of its rock art engravings, for the substantial evidence the collection of rock art images presents for hunting, fauna, flora and lifestyles in pre-historic times and for the cultural continuity between prehistoric and medieval times that the site reflects.

The first thing that you see on your way is a small modern museum that will tell you the history of “ravines land” (in Azerbaijani: gobu-ravine, stan-land).
Museum will also help you with interpretation of rock arts (this can be tricky enough).
For example, these are camels:
Three upper rows are bulls and oxes, two rows of camels then. Bottom row for snakes.
Four upper rows for rocky-mountain goats, birds then. Bottom row for wild boars.
Did you finish with the museum? It’s time to explore a real rock art!
In contrast to other ex-USSR open-air museums, here you can find paved paths with fences and warning signs for the most curious (“be aware of snakes” and “do not step”).
There are more then 6000 rock arts in Gobustan National Park. Most of them are located on rocks and in caves. Here are some of them.
Gobustan is an extremely beautiful place!
Gobustan became National Park in 1966. Since 2007, it is the part of Unesco World Heritage list.
