The number of different castles and fortresses in Georgia is amazing… Even on Akhaltsikhe-Borjomi road you can find a couple of. One of them is Slesa Fortress.

Slesa Fortress (also known as Moktseva) is located couple miles far from Atskuri Fortress on two hills near the Mtkvari river.
The fortress was built in 10th-11th centuries with the defensive purpose. In 16th century it was used to protect Georgia from the Ottoman invasion.
The fortress consists of two towers with no windows and doors. As Atskuri fortress, it is located in the strategically advantageous place – upper part of valley, near the river and near the main road.
There is some unrecognised modern monument nearby…
